Modern Cavemen

SB-19.jpg

Sculptures and installations are the disciplines in which Hannah Meijer (Utrecht, 1994) prefers to work. When she encounters a new material and gets triggered by a specific property, she lets it lead her to new shapes and techniques.  She works by merging materials, linking them to personal associations, bringing together apparent opposites and turning them into new objects.

In the works Meijer presents at Springboard, she brings together the craft of making her own paper with digital drawings, derived from shapes she finds in her daily life. Using the same principle of mixing craft with modern materials, she combined the centuries-old art of basket weaving with electrical cords. - Jip Hinten
